2024 Scholarships

Transition Fidalgo is pleased to offer a scholarship to graduating seniors of Fidalgo and Guemes Islands. This scholarship supports students who share Transition Fidalgo's goals and mission in supporting local communities in the face of climate change. Scholarships range from $500 to $2000.

An essay (up to two pages) describing your commitment and interest in community resilience, environmental stewardship, and climate change. Please describe how you have supported these initiatives in the past, and your goals and aspirations for the future.

2024 Scholarships:
​
TF awarded two $1,000 scholarships in 2024 to local AHS graduating senior students.
Aileen Kim:
Aileen will be attending the University of Washington this Fall where she is enrolled in Pre-Science (Microbiology). Aileen was associated with the AHS Green Club as a member and a club officer and has expressed a life-long appreciation of nature. Aileen appreciates the need to recycle for herself, her family and she worked with the Green Club to establish the recycle program at the new High School. Additionally, she worked with fellow students to make the reusable tote bags that have been distributed throughout the community.
Anthony Zumpano:
Anthony will be traveling to Alaska to study Physics at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Anthony has vocational plans on becoming a researcher at an observatory. Anthony enjoys mathematics, physics, and astronomy and he plans to join in a multidisciplinary Climate Scholars Program as part of their Honors College at the U of A that he has opted into. Notably, Anthony took part in an internship with Friends of the Forest with Transition Fidalgo which he assisted in measuring the water outflow through streams from Heart Lake.

2023 Scholarships
We awarded a scholarship grant to well deserving Anacortes High School senior Noah Dunham is studying Mathematics at Whitworth University.
Noah was presented his scholarship during our 2023 Board Retreat on Guemes Island.

Due to Covid restrictions, no scholarships were granted in 2021 or 2022.
2020 Scholarships
We awarded scholarship grants of $1000 each to very deserving Anacortes High School seniors Saville Feist and Alli Schuh. TF Board Former President Rich Bergner awarded the scholarships at our May Monthly Gathering.
Grace Hill received a $1500 scholarship, presented by Board Vice-President Bud Anderson.​

2019 Scholarships

We awarded the Anacortes Woven Dreams Food Co-op a business incubator grant.

Eco-Business Awards
TF formerly bestowed Eco-Business awards to local businesses that strove to uphold sustainable practices and values, recognizing those in our community who made business decisions that protected our environment.

2016: Dr. Sarah Hill and Playhouse Dental, for ecological building design and solar energy.

2015: The Market, for the store’s efforts to buy local, to offer sustainably-caught fish, to recycle (even cooking oil), and to return money from donated bring-your-own bag credits to preserve Skagit farmlands ($4000).”
