Fix-It Days
Pop-Up Repair Cafes

The Anacortes American newspaper shared a great article about Transition Fidalgo's Fix-It Days project in January 2025.

Our 2026 Repair Season Starts Jan 31st!

We'll be kicking off 2026 with our first Fix-It Days Repair Cafe at the Anacortes Public Library on Saturday Jan 31st, from 11am - 4pm.

Bring your broken or torn household items for our skilled repair team to fix or mend! Free and open to all.

What are Fix-It days?

Fix-It Days are community events dedicated to repairing broken items and keeping waste out of the landfill. Bring your items for our skilled volunteers to fix, mend, and sharpen. Initiated by Transition Fidalgo over a decade ago, our community "fixers" volunteer their time and expertise, boasting a repair success rate of over 90%!

While repairs are donation-based, no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Donations are crucial, as they cover the operating costs to keep this program running, and enable us to expand our services to offer more events and opportunities to have your items repaired.

Your contributions make Fix-It Days possible! Repairs are first come, first serve at our events.

When are Fix-It days?

Typically you can find us at the Anacortes Farmer's Market from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, on the last Saturday of the month (May through September), located at the Depot, 7th St. and R Ave. We also have additional events planned for 2025 at the Anacortes Public Library and Mount Vernon City Library.

Does Transition offer Fix-It services at other times?

We don't normally offer repair services outside of our above events, but please reach out to Katrina@transitionfidalgo.org if you have a project! Occasionally some of our volunteers can take on projects outside of our events.

Why Does This Program Exist?

Our mission is to breathe new life into broken items and divert repairable waste from landfills. Between 2000 and 2021, solid waste generation increased by nearly 71% (Department of Ecology). It’s clear we have a waste problem. Many of the items that end up in the landfill, are not because they are unfixable, but because the new version came out.

We believe the best way to address the waste problem is by offering repair services and raising awareness about the impacts of an unsustainable consumer culture.

How can I support the Fix-It mission?

Donate today! Your Fix-it donations help support the ongoing success of this program, and enable us to offer more events and services for our community!

Do you have repair or mending skills? Join our team by becoming a Fix-It volunteer and support our mission! Email katrina@transitionfidalgo.org to find out more.
